Federal investigators are now examining the wreckage of a helicopter that crashed in Huntington Beach on Saturday, injuring five people.
According to early reports, the aircraft showed signs of mechanical trouble moments before impact. Video footage from bystanders shows the helicopter losing altitude rapidly before crashing near the sand.
The NTSB has taken control of the investigation, focusing on the engine, maintenance records, and weather conditions at the time of the crash. Preliminary findings are expected within a few weeks.
Authorities say all survivors remain hospitalized but are expected to recover.
